Melanie A. Kirk
Melanie A. Kirk joined the firm in October 2016. Ms. Kirk focuses her practice on family law issues such as custody, divorce, adoption, and child support. Ms. Kirk also represents parents in special education cases and is a member of the Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates, Inc. She works with the juvenile courts in Nebraska as a Guardian Ad Litem,- and as an attorney for youth and families involved in the juvenile court system.
Ms. Kirk is a trained and approved as a Parenting Act Mediator by the Nebraska Office of Dispute Resolution, and she is approved to conduct specialized alternative dispute resolution for high-conflict cases involving domestic intimate partner abuse. Melanie is affiliated with The Mediation Center in Lincoln and is a member of the Nebraska State Mediation Association.
Ms. Kirk graduated from the University of Nebraska-College of Law in May of 2011. She received her undergraduate degree in Mass Communications from Doane College in Crete, Nebraska in 2007. At Doane, she was a staff writer and editor for the State's oldest college newspaper, The Doane Owl. She received several Associated Press Awards for her work at The Owl. Ms. Kirk also participated in varsity soccer at Doane. Before completing her undergraduate degree, she was a licensed EMT.
In her spare time, Ms. Kirk continues her work with children in the community. She coaches the Goalkeepers at Lincoln Lutheran High School in Lincoln.
